Our Mission

Gallatin Valley Food Bank’s (GVFB) mission is to improve food security throughout Southwest Montana.

Our vision is to create a healthier, more resilient, food-secure community in which all of the members are empowered and have the means to nourish themselves. We will continue to advocate and support our community through our work, partnerships, and commitment to improving food security.

History

Gallatin Valley Food Bank was established in 1982. By 2001, after moving twice, we moved into our current location off of North Rouse. Our current space is used to house our warehouse, self-choice food pantry, and commercial kitchen. We function as a food hub for our community serving as the distribution site for local nonprofits ordered food from the USDA or Montana Food Bank Network.

As a program of HRDC, Gallatin Valley Food Bank is a component of HRDC’s overall food and nutrition program. We know nutrition is vital for everyone in our community and we serve as a crucial link between food and the people who need it. HRDC’s food and nutrition program includes GVFB, Headwaters Area Food Bank, Big Sky Community Food Bank, and the Fork & Spoon restaurant and its Mighty Spork food truck. HRDC is a community action agency which has been serving Southwestern Montana for nearly 50 years. With 48 different programs including housing, early childhood education, energy affordability, senior services and more, we are committed to building a better community.

To keep pace with continued growth in our area, we are proud to introduce HRDC’s Community Commons. Community Commons will be home to two buildings, Market Place and Homeward Point. Market Place will include HRDC programs that address hunger in our community, including Gallatin Valley Food Bank, Fork and Spoon pay-what-you-can restaurant and more. The majority of HRDC staff that work closely with our customers will also be relocated to our Market Place. We are excited to improve our customers’ experience and strengthen our impact in this new step.
